Signal Repeater

A mobile signal repeater picks up the outside signal with a directional antenna, amplifies it and distributes it inside the property. To be legal and effective it must be homologated, have automatic gain control (AGC) and operate within authorised power.

We only install CE-marked, AGC equipment, and coordinate authorisation with your operator. This avoids interference, equipment seizure and fines, and delivers a stable coverage improvement for 4G, 5G and calls.

A mobile signal repeater (or booster) has three parts: a directional exterior antenna that captures the best available signal, an amplifier unit that boosts it, and one or more indoor antennas that distribute the signal through the home or premises. Positioning the exterior antenna well, aimed at the mast with line of sight, is the key to the system working.

The amplifier operates on the bands you need (voice, 4G and 5G) and for several operators if required. The number and placement of indoor antennas depends on the area and layout of the property, which we define with the prior coverage survey.

Very cheap boosters sold online promise to fix everything, but many are not homologated, lack automatic gain control (AGC) and transmit with uncontrolled power. Installing them, besides being illegal without operator authorisation, can saturate the network and cause interference, leading to equipment seizure and fines.

We only install repeaters with CE marking and AGC, set to the authorised power and coordinated with your operator. The difference is not only legal: homologated, well-installed equipment delivers a stable, lasting improvement, whereas a badly tuned cheap booster usually makes things worse.

The antenna that receives and the one that retransmits have to be far enough apart, and that distance is what decides whether the repeater works. If they couple to each other, the unit feeds back, detects the oscillation and reduces its gain or shuts down to avoid interfering with the operator's network: the result is an installed system that improves nothing.

The other factor is cable loss. Every metre of coax eats part of what was captured, so putting the antenna at the highest possible point is not always best if it lengthens the run considerably. We look for the compromise between received level, antenna separation and cable length, and leave it measured when we finish.
