Heat Pump Wiring

Aerothermal heating has become one of the most efficient systems for climate control and hot water, and in Alicante it is gaining ground fast thanks to the climate and grants. We handle the part that ensures its safe operation: the heat pump's electrical installation.

We run the dedicated line, size the protections, review the contracted power and, when the home has solar panels, integrate the heat pump with self-consumption so it runs on the cheapest energy. If another company installs the unit, we do the electrical part only.

We work both on new build and on replacing boilers and water heaters in occupied homes, where the panel usually has to be reorganised to make room for the new circuit.

The problem is not the heat pump's average consumption, which is low, but the compressor's start-up peak. In homes on a tight supply, that peak is enough to trip the main breaker when the heat pump, the hob and the air conditioning coincide. Before installing we review your actual consumption curve and tell you whether the contracted power needs raising or whether reorganising the circuits is enough.

Units with an inverter compressor and soft start cut that peak considerably, and in some cases avoid having to increase the contract at all. If the property is already three-phase, balancing across the phases solves it without touching the supply. It is a half-hour check that avoids an unnecessary contract increase and its monthly standing charge.

The combination works because the hot water tank acts as a thermal store: production is scheduled for the middle of the day, when the panels generate, and at night you draw on what was stored instead of on the grid. In a property in this province, with a high number of sun hours a year, that window is wide for much of the year.

For it to work, the unit's controller has to allow time bands to be scheduled, or be driven from the self-consumption management system. We leave it configured and verified. It is worth deciding before installation: changing how it is controlled afterwards means redoing part of the control wiring.
