On the plots around Mutxamel the pump generates more call-outs than anything else, and it is almost never the pump itself that fails. What fails is the protection, which has to be the right type for a motor rather than an ordinary breaker, and the line, which runs tens of metres to the well and loses voltage along the way until the motor starts under strain and overheats.

What we check is the whole set: cable section for the real run length, protection with a thermal relay set to the motor's current, and the dry-run cut-out that stops the pump destroying itself with no water. On irrigation systems we put the timer on its own circuit so a fault in the irrigation does not leave the house without water.
