Earthing & Grounding

Earthing is the foundation of any installation's safety: it channels current leakage to the ground and lets the RCD act correctly. Poor or missing earthing is one of the most frequent causes of EV-charger faults and of electrocution risk.

We measure earth resistance with an earth tester and, if it does not comply, install rods or improve the electrode until correct values are reached. It is especially important in villas with plots and dry ground, common across inland and coastal Alicante.

More and more faults we diagnose come back to the earthing: an EV charger turning red, an RCD tripping with no apparent cause or a pool with electrical risk usually have insufficient earthing behind them.

Improving the earth connection is a small investment with a huge impact on home safety, and it is essential before installing chargers, pools or sensitive electronic equipment.

In flats built before the eighties it is common to find two-wire circuits with no protective conductor, and the question is always the same: does the whole installation have to be redone? Not necessarily. Where the building has an earth on the riser, in many cases the protective conductor can be brought to the flat's panel and from there to the circuits in stages, starting with the bathroom and the kitchen.

What is not an alternative is relying on the RCD alone. An RCD protects a person on contact, but without an earth the casing of a faulty appliance can sit live until somebody touches it, and some equipment — computers, chargers — simply does not work properly without one. We measure what is available before proposing a scope.
