Electric Water Heater

We install and replace electric water heaters in homes across Alicante province. A heater needs a suitable circuit with its protection from the panel; when the installation is old, we check the line and RCD are correct to avoid trips and risks.

If your current heater gives trouble — water not heating, the RCD tripping, leaks — we diagnose whether to replace the heating element or the whole unit depending on its age, and advise the most cost-effective option.

A replacement is usually done in a single visit when the position and water connection stay the same. We take the old unit away for recycling.

The water across much of the province is hard, and it shows in how long a heater lasts. Limescale builds up on the heating element and insulates it: the unit takes longer to heat, uses more power and eventually burns the element out early. It also consumes the magnesium anode, the sacrificial part that protects the tank from corrosion.

That is why the anode is worth checking every two or three years, and the tank worth draining to clear the sludge. In holiday properties, where the heater sits full and idle for months, the deterioration is faster still. A heater with a sheathed element copes with limescale better than one whose element sits in direct contact with the water, and it is what we usually recommend on the coast.

Capacity follows the number of people and whether there is a bath or only a shower; power output follows how quickly you want hot water back. Before deciding we check two things that often get overlooked: whether the contracted power copes with the heater running alongside the hob or the air conditioning, and whether the existing line has the right cable section and protection.

Position matters too. In a bathroom the safety volumes set out in REBT instruction ITC-BT-27 have to be respected, and not every appliance is valid at every point. If the heater goes into a utility room or an enclosed balcony, we take the chance to give it its own circuit from the panel instead of hanging it off a shared socket.
