EV charger grants in 2026: what is left after MOVES III

If you have searched for help with the cost of installing an EV charger, you will have found dozens of pages still describing the MOVES III plan as if it were open. It is not. At ElectriPro Alicante we get calls every week from people counting on a grant they can no longer apply for, so let's set the record straight: what has ended, what is still available, and what paperwork you need so you don't lose what you are actually entitled to.

What exactly has ended

The MOVES III charging-infrastructure programme in the Valencian Community closed its application window on 31 December 2025, and the call's funds are listed as exhausted. In plain terms: no new applications can be submitted — not as a private individual, not as a self-employed worker, and not as a residents' association.

Two things get confused constantly, so it is worth separating them:

• Help towards buying the vehicle. That line has also been restructured, and the national successor is the Ministry of Industry's Plan Auto+. It concerns the car, not your electrical installation.
• Help towards installing the charging point. That is what this article covers, and that is what has disappeared as a direct grant.

If you already have a grant awarded under an earlier call, you do not lose it: your deadline to report the completed work still stands. What matters there is not being late with the technical documentation — installation certificate, invoices, photographs of the installed unit — and that part we can prepare for you.

What does remain: the income tax deduction

Here is the good news, and it is the route most of our clients now use. National legislation maintains an income tax (IRPF) deduction for installing an EV charging point at a property you own.

Under the published national rules, the deduction is 15% of the amounts paid, with a maximum annual base of €4,000 — putting the maximum deduction at around €600 — and it applies to installations completed by 31 December 2026. These deadlines have been extended before, so confirm that it is still in force with the tax agency (AEAT) or your tax adviser before counting on it. The practical difference from a grant matters, and it is worth understanding before you do the maths:

That last row matters: with the deduction you do not need permission before installing, which was mandatory under MOVES and cost a lot of people their grant because they hired the work first and asked afterwards.

The paperwork you need

This is where half of these deductions are lost — not on the installation, but on the documentation. To claim it you need:

1. An itemised invoice in the owner's name, separating equipment and labour, with VAT correctly shown.
2. An installation certificate issued and stamped by a registered installer, showing the installer's registration number.
3. Proof of traceable payment: bank transfer, card or deposit. Cash payments cannot be used to support the deduction.
4. The electrical certificate (CIE) where the installation requires one — for example if the panel had to be extended or modified. We explain this on our electrical certificate in Alicante page.

This is also why a very cheap cash offer with no invoice deserves suspicion: the apparent saving vanishes the moment you lose the deduction, and you are left without the certificate you would need to sell the property or make a warranty claim.

Municipal reductions: the saving almost nobody claims

Many town halls in the province of Alicante reduce IBI (property tax) for several years on homes that add energy-efficiency improvements, and some also apply reductions to ICIO, the tax on construction and installation work, for this type of job.

The percentage, the duration and the requirements vary a great deal between municipalities, and in some cases you must apply within a set period after the work is finished. If you park in a communal garage

Installing in a communal garage space carries a legal advantage many owners do not know about: you do not need the owners' meeting to approve it, only to be notified. We cover this in EV charger in a communal garage in Alicante: your rights.

For the community as a whole, the end of the grant changes the case for a shared pre-installation. It is still worth doing when several owners are interested, because the cost per space drops sharply compared with a series of individual installations — but there is no longer a grant absorbing part of the upfront investment. Redo the numbers before taking it to a vote.
